In Italy, the terms "Spider" and "Spyder" are used interchangeably today, referring to two-seater cars with an open-top. The Italian alphabet lacks the letter Y, so the term "spider" is preferred by Italian automakers. Originally inspired by the old Phaeton Spider carriages, the term was adopted to add a touch of nostalgia and coolness to convertibles.
