Story
Cruz Ramirez is dreaming of a street race in Radiator Springs while sleeping in the Cozy Cone Motel, when she is woken by Sally Carrera, who informs her that Lightning McQueen is waiting for her at Willy's Butte, while a group of visitors have arrived in Radiator Springs, who are interested in racing Ramirez. Additionally, Tony lectures Ramirez about getting practice for the upcoming Piston Cup season.

At the Willy's Butte oval, Lightning teaches Cruz how to powerslide, and challenges her to a race immediately afterwards. Following their competition, the two spot Jackson Storm watching them from a distance, and he quickly drives away after capturing their attention, making Cruz and McQueen suspicious. The first Piston Cup race of the season takes place in Texas with the rivalry of Cruz and Jackson growing even stronger than ever before, due to Lightning's retirement.

When Cruz returns to Radiator Springs, Fillmore provides her with a new organic fuel, which gives Cruz the ability to boost. After Ramirez participates in off-road training with Sarge, she and Mack travel to Pocono, where Cruz achieves another victory.

Ramirez arrives back in town at night, where Mater teaches him how to drive backwards, and Sheriff challenges her to a race. When Cruz is done, travels there some time later, she finds Mater practicing for the Rustbucket Race-O-Rama, a derby race between Mater and his cousins. Mater wins the race and receives a boost tank as a prize, which he gives to Cruz.

Soon after, Cruz meets a group of race cars from Queens, New York, who compete in practice races with Ramirez, before she heads off to the Los Angeles International Speedway to acquire her next Piston Cup victory.

Ramirez competes in more races with her friends, including a drive up to the Wheel Well Motel in Tailfin Pass with Sally. From this point forward, Cruz explores Tailfin Pass more, but runs into trouble when she finds the Delinquent Road Hazards blocking the road from her. The matter is settled with a race through the Abandoned Mine, and Cruz receives a third and final boost tank as a reward. However, when the four troublemakers flee the scene, they inform Ramirez that their conflict has just began. Cruz also competes in more road races, including in a monster truck derby race against Count Spatula and his friends in the Rustbucket Stadium.

When Cruz meets up with the Queens gang again at the Ornament Valley Gas Station, she finds Storm alongside them, and after a road race, Cruz playfully teases him. When Ramirez starts to leave and tells Storm she will see him at the city, Storm angrily drives away, making a comment about how Ramirez will only see him if she makes it to the city, leaving Cruz suspicious.

Shortly following this, the Delinquent Road Hazards work together to rob Tony of Cruz's gear while she is driving along Interstate 40. When Mack reports the incident to Sheriff, Ramirez strikes back by driving out to the Interstate and stealing his possessions back. The four cars are brought to the Radiator Springs Municipal Impound, where they claim they were hired by Storm.

Back at Pocono, Ramirez confronts Storm on the incident, who denies any involvement. After defeating Jackson, Cruz challenges him to a six-race competition, with a road race in Radiator Springs and the third, fourth and final rounds being the fourth, fifth and sixth races of 2018 the Piston Cup season. Storm accepts, and the event is covered by Darrell Cartrip and the Racing Sports Network.

Cruz defeats Jackson in all three rounds and manages to achieve another victory during the race at Chicagoland. After that, Ramirez and Tony travel to Calladega and manages to achieve another victory there. After that, Ramirez and Tony travels back to the Los Angeles International Speedway which is the closing race and manages to achieve her last victory there. Ramirez wins the Piston Cup trophy, which she puts on the windowsill of Doc's Clinic, alongside the Fabulous Hudson Hornet's three trophies, Lightning's seven trophies and her very first trophy.

Cars 3: The Video Game is a racing game, like many of the Cars games that precede it. There is a vast array of playable characters from the film, in addition to many tracks and locations. Like in Cars: The Video Game, players will be able to play in a story mode. There are five chapters of the story, each one containing 5-8 events. There are three types of events - road races, minigames, and Piston Cup races. In road races, players proceed through short races, each race open to a small number of contestants. There are three Piston Cup races, one at the end of each chapter. These races feature twelve laps, and a larger number of opponents. Halfway into the race, players must take a "pit stop" and a play a minigame in order to move on in the race. Completing and winning events will reward the player with trophies, and there are a total of 250 to collect within the campaign.

In between events, players can drive around a hub world that consists of three different areas; Radiator Springs, Ornament Valley, and Tailfin Pass. Players can explore the worlds while earning Skill Checks and driving past tourists and many of Cruz Ramirez's friends. New areas are unlocked as the story progresses. Unlocking criteria is as follows:
