Mater and Lightning McQueen.

The Cars 2005 Teaser Trailer is a teaser trailer made in 2004, and published in 2005, for the announcement of the 2006 movie Cars.

Plot[]

A bumblebee is calmly collecting pollen when Mater, who is driving along a road next to the meadow, hits it, and it sticks to his windshield. Lightning McQueen hurries over and asks Mater what happens, and Mater sadly replies, he "killed a baby bumblebee!" Lightning McQueen tells him to stop "bawling" and that it could be a lot worse. Mater says he does not see how it could be worse, when a swarm of bees crash into Lightning McQueen, and stick to his mouth plate, much to Mater's enjoyment.

Then the trailer cuts to a race at the Radiator Springs Speedway, where twenty-seven aggressive race cars are battling for the lead. After a montage of pit stops and spinouts, two cars are bashing each other while racing towards the finish line. The #57 car eventually overpowers the #13 car, and sprints into the finish line.

The short ends with Mater and Lightning McQueen watching it in a drive-in theater, implying that the race was part of a movie. Mater happily states, "I'd drive my tires over a mile of busted glass just to see that picture right there!"

Trivia[]

TSCars2005

Toy Story 2 logo in trailer.

  • The shots of Lightning McQueen and Mater appear to be early production versions of them.
  • Racer #57 and Racer #13 appear to be early designs of Lightning McQueen and Chick Hicks. The red racer bears the number 57, which was originally supposed to be Lightning McQueen's number, before it was changed to 95.
  • Racer #65 and Racer #9's numbers appear on the scoring pylon in the final movie. It is unknown whether they exist in the final movie, or their numbers on the scoring pylon exist purely as fillers.
  • On the early Trunk Fresh racer, logos for Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life, two other Pixar films, can be seen.
  • The fifteen cars at the Radiator Springs Speedway would represent a race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway sanctioned by the Auto Racing Club of America, or ARCA.
  • There is no information about the race scene in the trailer to if it is part of the 1999 scrapped idea from the movie.
  • It's unknown if the shown race was actually existent or canon in the Cars universe rather than just being a movie Lightning McQueen and Mater were watching.
  • The song heard is called "Westbound Sign" by the American rock band Green Day. The music from A Bug's Life can be heard at the beginning.
  • Some sponsors are actually real life companies like Pennzoil and Oreo, others are from different Pixar movies.
    • Pennzoil and Oreo were cut in the trailer and likely replaced by Sidewall Shine and Gask-Its in the final film due to copyright.
  • Lightning McQueen tells Mater that he should quit bawling because it could be a lot worse. It is possible that Lightning McQueen still hates rusty cars.
  • The bumblebee to early Pixar fans is Wally B. from The Adventures of Wally B.
  • Most of the racers resemble the 2005 NASCAR Ford Taurus and Dodge Intrepid, but they also resemble the 1998-2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR & Dodge Intrepid NASCAR.
  • A Dinoco racer was going to appear in the trailer but was cut and scrapped and later replaced by The King in the final film.
  • Dinoco, Trunk Fresh, Vitoline and Nitroade made it into the final film but the other sponsors featured were replaced.
  • R Queen was changed into Rev-N-Go in the final film.
  • There was a sponsor known as Tiny's Frozen Corn Dogs that can be seen in the pit stops, but that racer that was sponoring it wasn't in the race.
  • Racer #86's number and font was reused for Chick Hicks' number, albeit recolored.
  • The majority of the crowd at the Radiator Springs Speedway is comprised of 1960 Volkswagen Type 2 buses.
