As I have explained on the talk page of Luigi's hometown on Pixar Wiki, I believe Carsoli is the right name.
It's undeniable both "Santa Ruotina" and "Carsoli" have been used in official material, but as far as I know, "Santa Ruotina" is supported only by one source, while "Carsoli" is supported by several, more recent sources, one of which would be the director's word (although I cannot verify it, I don't have the Cars 2 DVD/Blu-ray). Of course I am open to discussion, but since nobody had intervened on Pixar Wiki, I went by the assumption silence is consent, and changed it there.
Hi! I'm really into the Cars books and would love to add summaries to this Wiki for those that don't have them already. I already posted one for Mater's Birthday Surprise. Some pages for the books, like Mater in Paris and Rematch! don't appear to allow edits. Could this be changed by an admin so I can post summaries for them? Thank you! Also, the Wiki rules warn against adding new character pages but I think this guy merits one: Speeder from the Oscaro.com Planes commercials. The actual character is a car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1_ygn8whII There is more about the ad campaign and Speeder himself at Oscaro.com
Hi Rolllerwings! Thanks for your intrest in the wiki. I looked at your edits to the Mater's Birthday Surprise page, and they look good (even though I don't have the book...). Mater in Paris and Rematch! were semi-protected, so that only "autconfirmed" users (users with more than 10 edits and 4 days of activity) can edit them. But I believe in this case you may access them, so I have unprotected them. If you need to access other pages, please tell me.
As for Oscaro and Speeder, we have pages for commercials from State Farm and Opel as well as the characters that appear in them, so I think we can have this one too.
Gray Catbird, do you agree with putting the film, episode and video game titles in italic? Some other wikis like Pixar Wiki, Pixar Cars Wiki, Disney Wiki and others, as well as non-wiki websites, have them in italic.
Also, there is about other changes, especially with Pixar Cars Wiki:
Different content: The two wikis have different content on the same pages, which some of the pages on World of Cars Wiki may have more information, and some of the pages on Pixar Cars Wiki may have more information. Also, I don't know where to put some of the content on Pixar Cars Wiki onto World of Cars Wiki.
References: Recently, RodRedlineM1 stated that he doesn't like references, stating that they interfere with text and make stuff harder to read (although that is his opinion), which he says that it may be better to have external links, which it may be a bit harder for me to copy the references from Pixar Wiki and Pixar Cars Wiki and change them into external links, especially that the ones with Car-Finder and Meet the Cars don't actually have a link to another website.
I don't have any problem with having or not having italic titles. I don't really care. It do seems to be a norm in film-related websites, but I'm not too sure why they do that... But whatever the choice, I think the wiki should be consistent in how it treats them.
Different content: Ideally, you could simply add what's of more in the corresponding pages... Do you have an example of content you don't know where to put ?
References: In my opinion, references are capital as they show what I say isn't coming out of the blue. I've heard too many times Wikia isn't reliable, and I guess I want to prove it can be. However, I can understand references can make text less clear, and I know several wikis have chosen to not use them, like Disney Wiki. I think using external links be can be a valid alternative, since that way you still keeping some kind of sourcing. For Car-Finder and Meet the Cars, you could simply give the title of the book ? Or give the link to the book's page on the wiki...
I am not a very active admin here so I am not sure of the value my opinion would have.
I agree it is regrettable several persons were separated on different wikis and not working toghether. This effect was at its worse in late 2011 when we had three pretty active wikis all working independently on the same subject (World of Cars Online, Pixar Cars and World of cars). People like me who were interested in a Cars Wiki, that would include non-Pixar material (which as you know cannot go on Pixar Wiki), didn't know were to edit. I believe that's why RaptorWiki initiated this merging proposition.
Even though on one side it seems to be a common issue on Wikia to have several wikis whose subject overlap, in this case all the wikis are covering the same exact subject, the Cars franchise. Merging them could simplify things up and help to make a better Cars wiki. Why I am a bit hesitant in front of the consequences of such merge on the wikis respective communities, I tend to be a partisan of the proposition.
So... A lot of the wikis you mention appear to be absolutly unactive and empty, and I would think these wikis are more candidate for deletion than merging... As you point out World of Cars Online Wiki has a relatively good argument to stay alone. So I would say the two main concerned wikis in this merge would be World of cars Wiki and Pixar Cars Wiki.
Gray, the value of your opinion counts as you among the rest of our team you are one of the most important users here :)
These are my thoughts: (reposted from the thread on my wall)
What I think, and please don't take this as bragging, but in my opinion our wiki is more detailed than other ones. The Pixar Cars Wiki is okay, but the lack of contents makes it not as reliable. As for the video game ones, I don't think that they're really needed as our wiki covers everything Cars related, so we don't need seperate ones on different topics. The Pixar Wiki is good too, but the problem is that they don't have articles for every location, character, book, comic etc.
Our wiki is not complete yet, as we need to find time to create pages on the voice actors, producers and crew of the series. We also need more book pages, but I don't feel as bad not having those because there are hundreds of books published over the course of the past few years, so it is near impossible to keep up with those, especially the mini puzzle books and sticker books.
Also, you are not the first to bring up a merging plan. I remember Lukwisnie lead a discussion about a year ago on this idea, and I do agree with this decision. The only hardship we face is this: getting everyone to agree to it. Users like Colindavis are not likely to respond very quickly because they're probably not as active. It also might be hard to convince Cars223412 because we blocked him a while back for vandalising stuff, so he may bring up an argument or something.
So, if we can talk about this with the other admins (here and in the other places) we can talk further.
I've seen your edits on Pixar Wiki and if you'd like, you could be an admin on Apple Wiki. I just recently adopted Apple Wiki and I need some new admins. If you would like to become an admin on Apple Wiki please reply to this message, if not please reply to the message. Thank you, and please get back to me!
