Plot[]
Chick Hicks is confident his monster truck protegee, El Machismo, will outrun Lightning McQueen on the Autovia desert track. Meanwhile, Lightning needs an off-road racing partner against the duo, but his friends' attempts to train for the event prove disastrous and he asks Sarge instead. The Jeep agrees, only to put Lightning through intense, military-style training.
Once in Autovia, Chick and El Machismo start the race with their usual boasting. Dismissing the Jeep as an old man, Chick releases bolts on the ground in front of him but crashes into a cactus while Sarge veers off-road to avoid the hazard.
El Machismo actually plays fair and takes the lead at first, impressing Lightning with his toughness in the sandy terrain. No sooner has Lightning taken the lead than a burst of sand blinds him, but heeding Sarge's advice to keep driving forward helps him win the race. Sarge and Lightning are awarded the Silver Tailfin trophy.
