Relay Races in this game are very similar to Luigi and Guido's Team Relay in Cars: Mater-National Championship. You race one lap as your first car, then the second lap as your second car, and third lap as your third car. You have to drive towards your next car and tag them, or else you'll lose speed. You have to cross the finish line first as your third car to win.
Relay Race 1
The race is a 2 lap (PlayStation 2)/3 lap (other) Relay Race around Santa Carburera. First place earns you a gold trophy, 2nd for silver, and 3rd for bronze. However, since there are only 2 teams on the PlayStation 2, there isn't exactly any trophies. If you win, you will unlock Relay Race 2, once its location is unlocked.
Relay Race 2
The race is 2 laps (PlayStation 2)/3 laps (other) around Motoropolis City. You have to place 1st to get a gold trophy, 2nd for silver, and 3rd for bronze. On the PlayStation 2, since there are only 2 teams, there aren't really any trophies.
Differences from Cars: Mater-National Championship
- In Cars: Mater-National Championship, you could choose each of your three team members, but not their paint jobs. In Cars: Race-O-Rama, you can only choose your first car and its paint job, while the others are chosen by the game.
- All of the Cars: Mater-National Championship relay races follow the same track as another race, while the Cars: Race-O-Rama relay races are on original race tracks.
- When they show you the race results, they show you the entire team on Cars: Mater-National Championship. They will only show you the third lap cars on Cars: Race-O-Rama.
